My first Manowar album and I’ve been trepidatious to try them ever since. This is regarded to be one of the worst Manowar albums. For someone who’s never heard a Manowar album before this one, I’ll say it’s just pretty average. There’s going to be some absurdity in every Manowar release, but “An American Trilogy”? Really?

Just way too many soft spots where Manowar forgets they’re a metal band and begin think they’re at the opera. I will say that Eric Adams does have an impressive voice suited for either metal or apparently, the opera, but who wants to listen to opera? Not me.

After all this, I considered picking up the band’s 2007 release “Gods of War”, but the reviews for that album are even worse than reviews for this one.

Highlights: “Call to Arms”, “Swords in the Wind”, “Warriors of the World United”, “Fight Until We Die”

  1. I recommend starting at the beginning with Manowar. Battle Hymns and Hail To England are both excellent. Into Glory Ride is okay, my brother used to love it, but it’s my least favorite of the first three albums.

  2. I agree with Jamie, start at the beginning. You have to take Manowar at face value because they are so over the top and they bleed Metal so much that it becomes a little too much. I always like to start at the beginning when i want to discover a new band so i would buy the first 3 records 1st. You could always go with the more accessible (and commercial, sort of) FIGHTING THE WORLD from ’87.

I have to agree with you, this was Manowar’s worst album until they released GODS OF WAR. Go to my site and read the review, it was my pick for worst album of 2007. Manowar are still a great band though, you should check out their Hell On Earth DVDs, they are excellent.
